I have a Chinese copy of a 102 which only gets used on two circumstances; I let children use it during demos and I will use it to clean up weathered timber when there may be grit, nails or wire stuck in it.

Looking at the amount of corrosion present you’d probably have to sandblast it all clean. Seriously, even if it was a 1920’s Stanley Sweetheart it wouldn’t be worth the effort of restoring it; and the cost of a new iron would be double its worth.

Use on weathered timber is an idea I can run with.

Use electrolysis and all the rust will be gone over a couple of days. no improvement on value unfortunately

I cleaned up a 102 which is very similar recently, that was in every bit as sad as state as the one you pictured. I removed all the rust mechanically, firstly with wire wheels, then wet and dry and finally a buffing wheel and some compound. Whether it was worth it financially I don’t know and don’t care, but from a satisfaction point of view it was well worth the effort. Also a 220b which only had minor surface rust.
