Default Size of zero clearance inserts

Ben+, who sold me my machine (Thanks Ben, great find) has kindly cut me some perspex inserts for the zero-clearnace hole in the table, as mine was missing anything there. The wider hole at the top surface fits the 31 mm inserts that Ben cut for me and the lower section of the hole fits the 25.4 mm insert perfectly. I have included photos here, with the 31 mm insert shown exactly fitting the hole and the 25.4 mm insert section on the table surface. the photos were taken before I bored the hole to take the blade. I bored a circular hole - not a slot - as I can feed each new blade straight through the insert - unlike a bandsaw, which needs a slot as the blade is continuous.

    Default Blade holding jaw design

I have attached (below) a photo of half of the upper blade holding jaw. My saw does not have any notches for the pins of the blades I am using - the pin just has to sit above the top of the jaw. It sounds like this may be different to some of your machines?

My post was just to emphasise that it is a standard gear oil used in large trucks and earthmoving machines so may be available cheaply from people who service such machines, whereas both the motorbike shop and my local servo just looked at me blankly when I asked for it.

    David,

My concern, was that what I had said, may have come across like I was implying people needed the Harley oil, which like you say if you can just find an SAE50, it doesn't matter who supplied it.

Unfortunately I had a completely different experience to you, heavy machinery and tractor sales and repair places turning me away, and the only place helpful was the motorbike place. I think the SAE50 is recommended for older motorbikes.

    Cheers,

    Camo

It's hard to tell from the picture, but mine looks the same, and the pin fits in the centre, which is a hole, and there is a hole in the other nut (if that makes sense).

    Cheers,

    Camo

P.S. Thanks for the pictures of the Perspex inserts.

I hadn't thought of putting the pin in the hole. Mine was full of grease and so I just ignored it, DUH!

In regard to the inserts, the size of perspex that exactly fits the top section is 31.1 mm, but once I glued the two together it is much more firmly fitted in the table as the smaller disc is thicker and fits so neatly in the lower section that the zero-clearance insert doesn't move. The thinner perspex 31 or 31.1 mm on its own moves around a bit unless it is glued to the thicker piece.
    Regards

    David

I could not find the Penrite 1 litre in Repco Penrite Oil - A Better Class Of Oil. Like Camo I found USA packaged oil at a Harley dealer - for less than $10 for a Quart. Looking in Repco, Penrite oils were $15+ per litre - so looks like Harley oil is well priced. Note the crankcase only takes 350ml, so 4 litres is overkill. Thanks for tip Camo.

    Cheers

There's another thread on these scroll saws where a forum member manufactured some upgraded blade holders and was offering them for sale. I have a set and they are fantastic. I'll try and find the thread.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks Mate. Was all over them at the time and purchased a set....thought I had a Hyco secured at the time but it fell through. So pretty stoked that this Woodfast version has popped up.
