no 3 hand plane. what brand.
have been given a no3 hand plane,no name anywhere'just a letter b on base and under lever .would love to know what brand thanks for your help

It could be an early Stanley (USA). The 'type 8" Stanleys (1899-1902) had a "B" cast in various places. It should say "Stanley" on the lateral lever (fixed to the top of the frog - if you're not familar with plane terminology), and also on the iron (blade).
Put up a photo or two, or checkout www.rexmill.com and go to the Type Study.
