Attaching thicknesser blades on a square head
Hi folks,
I have an old Jeffwood 702 thicknesser that I need advice on attaching a set of newly sharpened blades. The blades (2) are 12inch wide, and bolted to a square cutter head. See attached photos for details.
Any advice on how to setup the blades and rollers would be appreciated.
*Please note, this post is seeking advice on how to setup an old square head thicknesser. I know and understand the full risks associated with a square cutter, so please avoid posting comments about safety, noise etc.
Regards.

That Jeefwood is the same model I used for 20 years until I retired in 1996.
The way I set the blades. I placed a piece of 16 mm melamine on the outside edges of the table, bolt the blade in position but not tight, tap the blade down until it just touches the melamine, you should be able to move the head back and forth which will move the melamine a few a few millemeters, tighten up bolts and check it all again.
PM me if you need any more info. John.

I am a qualified A Grade senior Wood Machinist and I will add some helpful hints to your question:
These blades are called "Irons" and they are a standard 1/2 " thick. You can get hold of a setting guide to set the Irons into place and I must point out that this is a machine with Imperial threading, so you need Imperial (AF) Spanners to reset the bolts to reline the pressure bar into correct position. Do not use metric Spanners on this type of machine.
The large nuts that hold the Irons onto the head are called "Studs" and I got a feeling that these are "Whitworth" (British Standard Whitworth - BSW). Please view this thread for your further information.

Hopefully this will help!
