    Default Auger bit chuck

Picked up this chuck recently.. 120mm in length x 35mm in diameter..the spigot is 1/2 inch with a flat for a screw to lock onto. My first thought was for use in a drill press at the slowest speed.

1/2” spigot with a flat was commonly used for mounting chucks on hand-powered post drills so maybe that’s what it’s meant for.

Thanks for the ego boost Chief, and you're both correct. The chuck is that patented by J A Leland of Millers Falls USA in 1910, designed to accommodate square tapered and round shank bits. Quite a handy addition to the workshop.
