Bailey plane parts
Hi all,
I have fallen fowl of the dreaded ebay and some less than honest sellers.
It really PMO that people are misleading and mix and match parts, anyway I will eventually learn I guess.
Anyway I am after some parts to rectify the issue and minimise my lose.
2X sets of frog screws
1X Australian / English frog Ogee style to fit #7
1X set of handle / tote srews incl. brass nuts for #4
Obviously I would like to get these as cheap as possible otherwise these will end up being an expensive mistake.
I have been watching out for any part planes but have not found any suitable yet.
Cheers

Hi Brett. That sucks. I think the #7 shares blade sizes with other planes (pretty sure #4 1/2 and #6). Would that help expand your search options?

Ok; the planes share parts as follows:
Frogs:
no. 3 is shared by 5-1/4 only
no. 4 is shared with the 5
no. 4-1/2 is shared with the 5-1/2, 6 and 7
Handles:
no. 3 is shared with the 4
no. 4-1/2 is shared with all other sizes.
Fasteners:
All US and Canadian made planes use Stanley’s own non-standard thread pitch.
All early English Stanleys also use the same threads as the US.
All later English Stanleys (120004 or whatever number system they use now) use Metric threads.
Not overly sure of the Australian Stanleys; I only have one and it has the weird US threads.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

Righteo.
Found some but not all.
Two frog screws
There is a Number 4 Rear Handle screw.
I could not find a Number 4 front knob screw, but found two knobs with screws for larger planes. One low knob and one high knob. Both in Brazilian Rosewood. These may not suit you
I do not have any frogs - sorry

You are correct, unfortunately the bigger they are the more expensive and it needs to be a parts plane .

Thanks Scribbly,
Appreciate your help.
I am not certain but think the front knob screw for a #4 will be shorter than the larger planes ?
I can certainly use the frog screws and the #4 rear tote / handle screw assembly though.
I guess it comes down to cost. If it gets too expensive I will just throw it in the drawer, out of sight out of mind and learn from my mistakes.
cheers

Brett you can have the screws for the cost of postage.
Send me your address details via PM and I'll get it sorted for you.

I think I have one of these. It came on a Record 06, but it's a Stanley frog. I replaced it with a Record frog from a damaged plane. I may still have the Stanley one - yours for the cost of postage - however postage from New Zealand is probably over $10.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll go see if I can find it.

Hey Vann, you're pretty optimistic if you think Aust' Post is capable of delivering the box with that address.
Cheers,
Geoff.
