Default Bit of a haul today off Marketplace

I bought a box of tools today off marketplace and to be honest I didn't really look closely at the pics or all of them for that matter. All I saw was a few possibly chisels I've been scouring the world for recently: Wanted (QLD) Bevel-edge Chisels (woodworkforums.com). I didn't even look at the price. I notice the ad had only been up for a short time so maybe they were still available. I messaged the guy to see if I could have a look, and if they were what I wanted I'd offer him money for just the chisels, I didn't want the rest... He messaged back sure. Turns out he was just around the corner. Then he messaged me a few minutes later asking if I was definitely interested because he's getting hammered by people saying they'll buy the box of tools... So I say, I'll be there is 10mins. Worst that could happen is I say I'm not interested and he sells them to someone else.

I show up, and yup, they're what I want. Then he pulls out the Baily No 7 and as you can see in the pic, which is only half of what was in there, there's a lot more than I noticed in the pics. I asked him how much for the whole box and he said $100. I didn't hesitate, just handed him a couple $50s. I already have a coping saw, but this one is better so that's a win. The backsaw is a Tyzack Sons and Turner iron back and looks like it's still on its original sharpening. The No 7, I've never liked using them, but I'll hold onto it for now and see if I can learn to like them. I've always found I like shorter agile planes with a pimped-out blade. I like the little oil can also; I'll definitely use that. I've got a few doubles in the Marples chisels now and these need a bit of work to clean up. And there's a Berg 1/8th. I ain't making the same mistake twice (I sold a complete set of socket chisels before I knew they were some of the best in the world). I'll keep this one, and I don't think Marples or Wards ever made a 1/8 bench chisel anyways. I'll put the pine toolbox away with hopes I'll restore it at some point. I'll also keep the metric boxwood rule but not sure about the others. So more stuff to find a place to put it LOL. Just what I need

I know!!! I sold one along with a 1 1/4, 1, 7/8, 3/4, 5/8, 1/2, 3/8, 1/4. All the handles were showing their age, but the steel was near perfect; and socket chisels!! I never even thought to try them out as I've got a set of Ashley Isle I bought over 40 years ago, when LV used to sell them, and was for the most part satisfied with them. That was till a few months ago when I acquired, with the Bergs (By then the Bergs were sold), a hand forged Marples... The Ashleys, were still good, but really lacking compared to the that Marples. And the quest began after that LOL. I'm like a Jack Russel on a rat, I'm relentless till I get what I'm hunting for.

So, this one's going nowhere. Knowing the price of Bergs now, they're not on my radar. Still much cheaper than new "quality" chisels by far, but the Marples and Wards I've been looking for are very cheap by comparison. And no one seems to want them, especially the Wards - not sexy enough I guess.
