Default A bit of a skite about my old tool finds over the last 2 weeks

I’ve had a real win with 3 old tool purchases in 2 weeks. I’ll show only the tools that are the cream of the crop.

A tool caddy, $40 bucks. 2 Ward, 1 x Amsdick (?), a Marples and 2 Titan chisels of good length, 2 bench hooks, and an E Presons and sons wooden level, complete and will clean up well.

Box of old tools, $100. I bought this for the 29” Spear and Jackson thumbhole saw. I think I’ll be able to clean it and have a very good etch. Other picks from the box are an Alex Mathieson and son 17” jointer. The tapered blade and matching cap iron are great, with 2” of useable blade. 2 nice length Titan chisels, a nice Hale Bros chisel and a Small Charles Taylor gouge, a new in box Ixion hand drill and a good condition Stanley one, with a mixed bag of old maker bits. 26” Rip saw, can’t see a makers mark.

Tool box, $130. Robt Sorby steel backed Tenon saw, mystery steel backed tenon saw, Disson saw, PPW Poland breast drill with mixed bag of old maker bits.

Vera, there was a sticky thread called “Monday night show and tell”, or something, that was about your weekly old tool pickings. I couldn’t find it to put my great big enormous tease into that.
I can’t work out how to photos either, and I do have some juicy pics.

Fantastic Pat. In all my tool hunting I’ve never come across a slick except online.

Hi Pat. I have been after a slick for some time. Did you get yours from here or are you getting buying from the US?

I've got one that I am going to let go.
It is a Greenlee of around 3 to 3-1/2 inches if you are interested.
I can get some images later if you like

The $100 tool box had this beauty. I have quite a few old Spear and Jackson saws but always wanted a thumbhole one.
Beautiful, with only slight damage to the tips of the handle horns. 3 broken teeth, so that will need effort. I can see the etch thru the surface rust, so I’m excited to see how it restores.
Now I’ve just got to find a crosscut one…

No worries - here we go.
It is a three inch slick by Greenlee.
The handle is a replacement and the blade is slightly canted so your hand clears the surface when working.
There are a few stains to the back but no pitting.
The front still shows the forging ripples in the steel.
The back is flat and the blade is sharp and ready to shave

Slicks are rare here in Oz.
Only seen a few in 30 plus years of running the tool sale here in Sydney.
Last one here I bought as it was lighter than the monster I’d brought back from the states.
When last on Vancouver Island I visited a local who carved totem poles, he had at least half a dozen on his tool board. When I walked over and admired them he knew I ‘got it’ and invited me back when he was carving.
Never happened, as there was a death in the tribe and we had a schedule to keep.
