Pedestal Drill, Mortiser | Power Tools | Gumtree Australia Kalamunda Area - Kalamunda | 1025743492
Three Phase Mortiser/ Pedestral Drill $90.00
The thing is - it's missing the top part of the slide mechanism that clamps the timber... with a big cast wheel like the bottom one and also contains the lock / unlock to adjust the timber front or rearward to center your mortice chisel slot!
I had one of these for 20 odd years that belonged to my old long since passed uncle, which sadly sold with the factory...back in 2006...
I've always wanted to replace it...
This is a bargain.
It's one of the old "Tough" brand of post drills....
I recall that they went out ofbusiness here in perth out abernethy road way - many years ago! I understood the employees bought the company and soldiered on for some years making machines and parts etc but, I think they have now days gone the way of the Dodo unfortunately.
What are my chance sof finding the replacement parts that are missing?
I must have spent countless hours pulling down on those levers to drill mortice holes...over the years...
I'd give my left nut to own this and restore it to its former glory with the missing bits and put it back into service.
What are my chances of finding the missing parts?
Without them, it's basically of no use to me!.
It's like losing an old friend.

Chances of finding/buying the missing parts? Probably zilch.
$90 and worth your left nut? Buy it. When you see the next one (in 7.5 years time) it'll have the slide but be missing the stand, or the motor, or the pedestal will be bent. You won't regret it (but the misses might ),

Timeless, with all those years of experience using the Morticer, I am sure you could devise a clamping system that would make the machine operable again. I am sure there would be Forumites around you who could machine up some parts for you. It could be a "Group Restoration" project
I think its important to get these old machines, that are part of the fabric of Australia's history, up and running to show just how capable Australian manufacturing could be. Its such a shame that the manufacturing companies that were run successfully for years are now very quickly "going down the gurgler".Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Tough mortiser.
Amongst a few machines I have undertaken to dispose of for a departed mate is a complete one of these. Similarly 3 phase. It's on the East coast unfortunately.
Happy to take some pics and measurements if you do buy the incomplete one.

All good suggestions...
All good suggestions guys...
Unfortunately Charlie ASH isn't on speaking terms with me this week... I've about borrowed from family and friends as far as the limits will stretch in the last couple of days.
The spare parts (fences etc) for the saw bench on their way from England... Yesterday, 422.6 UK Pounds... ($735.93)
New (unused) Romac 5 HP 3 Phase twin bag dust extractor.......Yesterday ($600.00)
Needless to say.... I'm not the most popular bloke around with SWMTSWTP... to the point that - she decided to "take me out for a fathers day dinner tonight".... except, I wasn't invited! (looks like pizza for 1 again)
Ohh well - the sheds looking good right about now... if only I could find buyers for all the crap I have stored in there that's on gumtree to make room for me to actually work!.
Apart from being temporarily skint - there's just no room for that mortice drill just yet... something else has to go first!
I got the sparky to put in a 3 phase outlet for me in the shed about 2 weeks ago, so i could run my X 31 Robland!
In the last 2 weeks I've bought the 3 phase compressor last weekend (another $50) - the Dusty this week $(600), and if I added a 3 phase mortice drill - the sparky would have to come back and install another 3 x 3 phase outlets!
This is already well n truly getting outta hand - a little "wood working hobby" is getting as big as Ben Hur in a matter of only a few weeks!
I think maybe I need to quit while I'm ahead for a little bit - at least until SWMTSWTP - starts talking to me again!.
I have to admit tho - it's damn tempting!

Against
Not too sure if it's against the rules to raffle ones kidney online?
Anyone know what the going reserve price is, and what I should set the buy it now price at?
Its FD, and I'm alone.... Wifey's down donating blood...daughters asleep having just completed a night shift, number 2 son asleep after same thing (night shift), and number 1 son away up the Goldfields working!
I guess it's time to head up to the shed - again!
I did get a NICE battery drill from my daughter yesterday tho, for today, coz she new she'd be asleep most of today!
I am like a dog with 2 tails at the moment... it's been a pretty damn good week all up.

top slide ass. for TOUGH morticing drill
I've had a bench mount drill like this for years, never been able to do much with it. I'm more into metal, milling is a bit scary on it. If you're still looking for the vice/top slide section of your drill, make me an offer i can't refuse.
