I'd like give my new, old, #71 router plane a little bit of a spruce up. It's nickel plated and the coating is still in good nick. There's just a few little spots around some indentations that I'd like to see if I can clean out.

I was thinking a bit of metho, turps or WD40 with a hard toothbrush would do the trick to clean it up and maybe a spray of Selley's EZ-Glide (it's what I've got handy - but other suggestions are welcome) to finish off and protect the top. Underneath I'd be looking at the same cleaning process but finishing up with some trad wax so as not to put funky chemicals on workpieces.

Does that scare the hell out of everyone, or am I on the right path?
