Colour scheme for Stanley 244 mitre box
I'm using the extra time that social distancing is giving to restore an old Stanley 244 Mitre box like the one shown in the attached leaflet.

The previous owner of my example painted it green, including where when I strip the paint off it is clear that the original was nickel-plated.
I assume that the original finish of most of the cast iron was japanned, but does anyone know what parts were plated and what were japanned (and what were left au naturel)? Thanks in advance for your help.Cheers

Here's one I prepared earlier.

Most of the main body is black, except for the inside face of the rear fence. The raised areas are bare, while the rest is silver paint. When I got it there was enough of the original finish left for me to know what the original finish was.

Here's a rear view, along with one of all the painted parts before assembly. It took a lot of time with masking tape & a razor blade getting the parts ready for spraying.

There may have been different paint schemes over the years, mine's 1912-1913. Here's a link to some information on them. The Valley Woodworker: The Stanley Mitre Boxes family
