    Default Saturday

    The Danckaert saw is all paid for now, but he is happy to hang on to it at his place for a while longer - which is a big pressure off at this end.

    This cutting up thing is getting fun ...

    This piece is the twin to the previous section. The clamp/push-stick does a good job in stabilising pieces that want to rock a little. (first picture) This piece wanted to rock down about 5mm at the outer front edge.

    End result (second picture). Nice.

    Next to tackle some bigger sheoak pieces.

    Default Sheoak #1

    This is the first big sheoak section I've attempted. I wasn't sure it was going to go smoothly, but the guides are obviously doing the trick - no problem with drift at all.

    The surfaces all got a big spray with WD40 beforehand, and I have taken to spraying it directly onto the top and bottom guides a few times while cutting ... maybe one good spray per metre ... seems to ease things along with these deep cuts.

    BTW - remind me not to let Lois become director of photography again

    Once again - very happy with the end result.

    Paul looks like some great results well done mate, and a great set up to boot.
    I love the Pic of you standing next to the Barker Beast !
    That She oak is open grain but as jack said very decorative grain on the quarter cut.
    What's is the next step from here for you Paul ?? May be try on some Bi Metal blades, and wider TPI ? Eight new clean blocks of Hardened Steel for the top and bottom Guides ? Power Feed unit ?

    I was arranging some pieces to photograph when I read this.

    The first pic is the end grain to one piece ... quarter-sawn(?) - you can see the rings are straight across at the top and about 45deg angle at the lower end.

    The second pic is the face of the piece.

    The third pic is the lower face ... with the grain intersecting at 45deg.

    The other pics are the top face, which is parallel to the grain direction - hard to photograph well.

    Default In other news ...

    First - I used the push-clamp to cut a piece of peppermint - never encountered it before.

    Second - the bandsaw must be a pretty efficient tool - next two pics are the wood I've cut up so far - and the meagre sawdust produced to date.

    Lastly - what I love about jarrah. I don't know if you can really make it out from the picture, but when you put it into a hard-working position it develops a hard-arsed, indestructible attitude. This piece is on the leading edge of the infeed table.

    Just for laughs ... I found this photo of the original sheoak log I bought in 2009 ... in Harvey ... 100kms from home ...

    Nothing insane about it Paul, in fact its all looks like signs of health to me, I would of tried to grab all those logs...lol.
