Default Cutter head Guard for a Wadkin RD 16 inch planer

I am hoping someone may be able to provide photographs of the original front gaurd for a Wadkin RD 16 inch Planer/jointer (circa 1953). All information would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if these are close enough to show your machine, but there are a couple of Wadkin brochures from 1963 and 1972 on the Oztion auction site.

    also Google turned up these:

    Hi Quasimodo,
thank for your reply. I already have images of the 2 jointers in the url's posted. What I am looking for is a close up image that details the underside of the guard. I want to fabricate one as close to the original as possible. I currently have a very poor copy of the original sales brochure but it lacks the detail I'm looking for.

    G'day.
Give Ian Watkins a ring at Advanced Timber Systems in Darra, Brisbane.

He used to work for Wadkin years ago and is still a rep for Wadkin. He may just have what you are looking for.

His number is in the book....
    Hooroo.
    Regards, Trevor

    Default Wadkin jointer guard

A mate is running one of these. It may be earlier even pre war.
I can get a pic if you dont have any luck.Probably have a 50s cat at home also.
He is replacing the guard with a fabricated aluminium copy of the J T Peat IDEAL
guard. I tigged up the cover bit for him and he made the arms etc. He's a blacksmith.
These are the ones with the spring loaded parrallel arms that raise it for surfacing and swing it sideways for jointing edges.Fully auto you dont forget to adjust it.
I don't like the origonals, got my middle finger left hand 'cause of a similar set up on my 18inch UO/S. And my own stupidity it goes without saying.
Mates son did similar thats why he's changing it.

Thanks for your reply. I have used the swingback gaurds before on a barker jointer and found them to be an excellent device. In fact I made a copy for another barker I once owned, I had access to a engineering workshop back in those days so the job was simple but today I don't have such luck. I had thought about the swingback gaurd this time around but I would need to see one again. Would appreciate a photo of the J T Peat gaurd when its finished.
