    Default Double head marking guage

Probably I saw a picture of one of these 20230302_171710.jpg about 30 years ago... I ended up finding one thrown in a box in the UK about 8 years ago. For 5 pound, it was a no brainer. The only thing written on it is Made in Sheffield. So maybe Sorby (probably not) or Marples (unlikely), maybe even Stanely. Though I have a Stanley that has a lot of similarities but also some big differences, and this one doesn't have Stanley anywhere on it. One thing's for sure, I can't find another anywhere. So maybe one of you who collect the old catalogues could have a sticky beak...

I have a single point marking gauge the same, 6.5 inches long Sheffield England the only indication of where it came from. It was my grandfathers he would not have bought it from Lee valley, maybe Lee Valleys grandfather sold them?

Vise versa, Leonard Lee had a huge old tool collection which he used as a resource for a lot of his ideas for ‘new’ products.
A large part of this collection went west. Might have been Crossfield Ab it ended up in, my memories vague.
Its upstairs in a huge warehouse full of hundreds of large North American and English woodworking machinery.
I scored a visit to checkout and photograph the machinery, next time upstairs, but I don’t know how organised the guy is. Was minus a few degrees as usual in Alberta.

Silex here in Oz did a double beam but not a double head that I know of.
My father had a single very like the double in your photo.

While it would be handy to have 2 settings I think I would rather use 2 guages. That just looks unwealdy to me.

    Lee Valley/Veritas ...

Yes, details are different. However, if you are looking for this type of marking gauge, the Veritas, with sharpenable two wheels, is far superior. to the two (unsharpenable) pins.
