So ,, any way . Dale , I rang a good carrier company , just as an exercise in pricing . That buzzer should be around 7 to 750 kg
A tail gate Pick up from SA and back to the Melbourne depot is $252 Cash or + $28 to your door for a tail gate drop off.
I didn't tell them where your door is cause I don't know where it is , so the price could alter.
That's with Gilders transport Melbourne, They give good rates from Sydney down to here , looks the same from SA

Dale,
Oh come on, really!! Do I continue down this path, or do I try to be the better man and walk away. Did you have to use the word Trolling, and then say this
I don't want to "twist" your words, but now I think your intent is fairly clear (good wordsmith or not).
No it wasn't a loaded question, on each post, I gave you the information I had at the time, and I think the opportunity to clarify what you meant by your statement. But I have to ask, why when I asked:
after you said:
did you respond the way you did, especially if you thought it was a baited question and if you didn't mean by this that Thomas McPherson & Son and McPherson's Pty Ltd were two different companies. I think my initial question made it pretty clear how I was interpreting what you had said (rightly or wrongly).
This would have been a perfect response:
although obviously at the time you may not have needed to put such emotion into it. Would I have still recommended that the first post be altered to prevent confusion, yes, and even after everything, I think it should be changed. Is that bordering on Trolling, or is it me trying to ensure someone in the future doesn't get sidetracked, I guess it's a matter of opinion.
You don't have to answer, I point it out as perhaps the Epicenter of what has become a big explosion, something perhaps for both of us to dwell on in the future.
OK, I'm not sure if this response counts as being the better man, or my response still "borders on trolling", but it's as nice as I could be given the circumstances, you should have seen my first draft.
Cheers,
Camo

I might suggest that the ironic point should be that without copying the ebay pics across to the forum, the whole point(s) of discussion will soon be erased by the ephemeral nature of ebay ads.
Also - I'm sure any one reading up on some references is likely to read more than a single post in order to get a context to whatever they are searching for. I know I've been drawn into some long and fascinating threads around and about from looking up one small reference.
Cheers guys,
Paul

I know that somewhere out in my shed there is a 1900s McPhersons woodwork machinery cattle dog but I haven't sighted it for about ten years.
How about we all calm down and wait until I find it.
Or my kids do when they clean up the whole mess after I'm completely gagga.

Henry,
I would love to see that catalogue, I would also love to see more detail about your later Thomas McPherson & son Pty Ltd catalogue (perhaps it may have address details in it that may be relevent, perhaps if you get a chance you could start a new thread?)
Thanks for the pictures, in case you missed it, their is also an initial thread that I linked to earlier, with more detail if you were specifically interested in the bandsaw (my focus was more on the history of McPherson's).
I agree with you in theory, but it's the path you get sent down that concerns me and how long it takes to find your way back, and why did you need to get sent down that path in the first place. I think you should be able to tell from my passion on this subject that in practice, I have fallen into the trap of not looking ahead enough in a thread for contradicting material. I was overwhelmed by the volume of material, I did not go far enough until much later. When I was going back to check the credibility of all the material, I found that I had missed the debate over the accuracy of the initial statement, as it was several posts later. When I look at Dale's post and then my question (on my computer), they show up on separate pages, and there are 3 unrelated posts in between, so although it would be the researchers fault for not reading on enough, I would have to be sympathetic. I rarely find during research that the stepping stones all line up nicely, sometimes there is lots of information on the one topic, and sometimes their is only one. If there is only one, then you either need to say, this person is right or this person is wrong, then you may have to take a leap over a few missing stones to what you think is the next stone.
Is Dale's post a critical stepping stone, well that could depend on what you put into whatever search engine you are using, but my stand point is, if the opportunity exists, why wouldn't you change it, I see many disadvantages in not changing it, and prior to it being locked absolutely no disadvantage. My stubbornness in wanting it changed, stems from my past experience, not some vendetta or sudden interest in becoming a Troll. Perhaps if I had it over again, I would have tried to explain better why I was so insistent on it being changed. I still do not understand were Dale's stubbornness to not change his initial post stemmed from. All I keep seeing, is it would have taken maybe 30 seconds to make a change to the wording, even if he wanted to say something like "I don't understand why Camo is interpreting this statement as saying...., but when I wrote this, what I mean by this is.....".
Anyway I have probably said too much again, and I have committed far too much to this topic, so I will leave it at that. I'm going to spend some time in the workshop.
Cheers,
Camo

I hereby volunteer Cam to check it out and take pics for our perusal.

I spoke to the guy , He reckons it was a Tafe lathe , before the guy he bought it off. He says he's putting up pictures.
$5000 has got to be what a freshly painted one would be on a dealers showroom floor hasn't it ?
Any one ever seen a Wadkin 8 foot RS on a dealers floor and how much was it?
The last ebay RS I saw was $2200 I think Or was it $1800?? in Melbourne from memory it had the lot with it , not sure about the sliding tool carriage though
Any one ever seen a Wadkin RS 10' for sale on a dealers floor and how much was that. Or one at auction.
Ebay prices are the same as clearance sale prices mostly , unless you get two people who really want it , like Me Matty Cam, Alli maybe ?
and all the other people who like them that I don't know. If it started at $1 with no reserve, I wouldn't think it would finish at any more than$2500 to $3G with people fighting for it.
You never know though.

When I sold my RS 10 about 15years ago I got ten big ones for it.
Gabbit was the big dealer then he used to be sales manager for Austral before starting up his own secondhand machinery business.
Stuart then started up A class and he borrowed all of Jacks Wadkin cats etc and of course never returned them!?
These guys really new how to charge and would pay over the top at auctions just to have the machines in stock?
I also think they liked to cut out the private buyers where they could.
I bought a bit at auction and would keep my eye on them and be happy to bid one past them. I would be very wary of private bidders as some of them would lose it and pay anything just to win the auction. The dealers would put 100% Mark up so you knew where you stood with them.
With the collapse of the local furniture and foundry industries machines have never been cheaper but once we get thru this there will be no more.
The Poms went thru similar with Thatcher there was a wave of stuff around then and lately their new OHS laws have scared a lot more onto the market.
Both my RSs I bought at auction one as a pile of bits on a pallet the other from the SRA Everleigh shutdown here in Sydney.
