Wood Lathe Vintage Antique in Sydney, NSW | eBay
"Vintage Lathe This was manufactured by GF & J Barnes Rockford Illinois USA I believe it started life somewhere between 1889 and the early 1900’s as a Back Geared Screw Cutting Lathe. I suspect a No. 4 1/2 Velocipede Screw-Cutting Lathe powered manually be pedals. Have a look at Barnes Lathes . Somewhere along the line it was converted to a wood lathe powered by an electric motor. It can turn pieces about 130mm 5 inches in diameter and 800mm 31 inches long. I believe it weighs about 300lb (all cast iron) but can be easily dismantled in to 5 pieces; Legs (2), bed, tailstock, headstock. The book that goes with it is about the same type of lathe but from the South Bend Lathe works dated 1930. I brought the lathe back from America over 30 years ago and a few years ago put on a new 1HP electric motor which has seen very little work. The lathe runs well and was used earlier this year to turn chair legs. There is a a small selection of wood to get you started (some American Oak?)"
