Default EMIR No2 wooden hand plane

I was given this hand plane.
EMIR No 2, it has a Henry Taylor's blade.
I think it is not in good condition to restore or use.
    Am I wrong?
Anyone have more info re date?
From my photos is it restorable to a user, or just a decoration?
    Thanks
    Lyle

That blade was designed as a replacement for Bailey type metal planes and is best used with a cap iron; which is missing from your plane. The beech is looking a bit tired with cracking around the front horn; if you soak it in linseed oil the cracks might close up again.
What condition is the sole in? If it’s worn then it will either need a new sole or you re-use the body as a scrub plane.

It’s only going to be worth what you are willing to put into it; personally I would either clean it up with an oily rag and put it on a shelf or add it to the firewood pile but I don’t know the circumstances behind the gift; it may mean much more to you.

As said it would make a fair scrub plane. The blade is not the original but they are a single iron plane so it will still work. It has been modified a bit as the back end does not look right. Looks a bit worn down so the mouth is likely quite wide. A ready made scrub. Bit of camber on the blade and away you go.
It was one of those that got me started with wood planes over 10 years ago.

    Thanks for the replies.
It's of to a mate that wants to have a go at it. He's going to see if he can get it going as a user. First try at doing that, so a good way to learn I guess.
