    Default Hollow Chisel Morticer - Ebay

    Alexander Mathieson and Son,

    Saracen Toolworks,Glasgow"Star" Model
    Model / Brand: Star
    Manufacturer: A. Mathieson and Son, Saracen Tool Works, Glasgow.
    Year of manufacture: Unknown.
    Material: Cast Iron
    Description: Up for auction is a belt driven, "Star" model, Hollow Chisel Morticer. The drive gear and shaft are free and rotate easily. The table "X" and "Y" adjustments operate free and smooth. The table clamp operates freely but is missing the adjustable clamp plate that fixes onto the end of the clamp screw (as can be seen in photos), but another would be easy to make. The collet is all complete (as far as I can see) but I have no chisels that I can test. The side guide shaft is not original.
    Any questions, please feel free to ask. The only other one similar to this that I could find on the internet is a hand operated one that has a hand crank where the belt pulley on this one is, which would be easy enough to do to this one, should you so desire.
    Payment and Postage: Payment can be made by Paypal or C.O.D. Postage is "Pick Up Only" and due to weight and size, a ute or trailer is recommended when picking up. I can load and deliver to Sydney for $250 if this is any help.

    Default Hollow chisel morticer.

    I have a similar machine which I put an electric motor on about 30 years ago.
    In my shed I have some line shafting and am considering getting a few toys to run off it now I am retired.
    Could you post some close up pics of the pulley and bevel gears etc.
    My old one had a real Heath Robertson mechanism for converting the horizontal belt to vertical up and down motion. I chucked this out on one workshop move.
    Also a close up of the chuck would be handy.
    My converted one did a lot of work including about 40 doors for a mansion in Waitara and all the canted teak joinery on the steam yacht Ena restoration.
    I doubt I would now need one much maybe just for new doors on the Mog +4.
