Default Can you identify this mystery tool?

    ckc8loyh11771.jpg

Unmarked, appears to deliver small quantities of a thick liquid (or possibly powder/granules) down a brass channel to a pointed tip. Apparently turning the handle causes the tip to oscillate, presumably to aid the flow of whatever it is delivering and/or disperse the output over a wider area. It is not clear whether heat is involved, but we suspect it might. There is no visible residue to help identify the substance it was used with.

My guess is that the guard/guide arrangement at the tip is to keep two layers of material separated while the substance is applied between them as the tool is withdrawn, or alternatively it delivers a controlled quantity of the substance to a very specific point deep within a construction - but Google searches for vintage glue applicator and related terms haven't turned up any supporting results.

There is a knob on the rear that I assume to be a resting foot. I suspect that the tool would need to rest and be used in much the same shallow angle, probably held with the left hand while the right hand alternates between manipulating the workpiece and cranking the handle, but this is all just guesswork.

    Any ideas?!

Dave, it looks like a seal remover, used to remove oil seals

It does a bit, but that's not it. I'm sure it dispenses or applies some kind of substance.

I think the end fits over a barrel, the pointed bit would fit close to a hole. The handles vibrates the tool.

Some sort of early gunpower charge inserter?

What item might need solder added along a round length?

Could this be used to pour lead or an easily melted agent along a steel wire cable for instance? Size it with metal to firm it together?

Sorry no other pics at this stage, I reposted it here from an unrelated forum as it seems very antique tool like.

The OP will have access to it again in a couple of weeks and take more pics if nobody has identified it in the meantime - either way I'll keep you posted!

Try searching antique / vintage medical / dental tools. Possibly used for amalgam dental fillings.

It looks a bit like this:

But be warned, that's a tiny island of family friendly in a stagnant pond of historical hysterical maybe NSFW, if you want to investigate whether similar hand cranked mechanisms might be a better match 😅

Hmmm, I wonder if it works on COVID-19 🤔

    Default Solder dispenser ?

Just saw this in a YouTube on the manufacturing of brass instruments.
The tool in the screenshot was used to dispense solder? flux? powder along the joint which closed a sheet into the tube of a trumpet.
I know it doesn't have the T-shaped tip of the tool in question, but it might give another search avenue.
