    Default infill plane project W.I.P

I picked this little ripper up at a garage sale about a month back & got it for a a song and no I'm not telling ya the price or I'll have you all throwing your dirty old 4 1/2s at me in disgust it was in a very sad shape so but after a good clean up it looks a treat, the bad part was it had no handle .

so after a bit of a think on it I decided to to make this one a user plane & not to match the wood ( maybe wallnut ) & use what I had in the shed.
after finding a bit of tassie oak in the right dimensions I sat down & worked out a shape that fits my fat hands .
cut the card & copied then fired up old Mac the band saw & did some shaping, happy with my effort so far but still got a lot of work to do.

That's a nice looking plane Scrounger , If you like , have a practice run on the vic ash ,and I can give you a bit of Walnut for the second go at it .
    Free .

I cant tell if it is Walnut, Mahogany or maybe even Blackwood , but I have all three of them here if you need a bit.

I was wondering for a while if you had an unmarked Jas Mclaren infil plane there , he was a Melbourne Maker . I dont think it is though.

There is a Mclaren on ebay for sale now .

The front bit looks like Walnut the Back on the side in that top left picture looks Mahoganyish .

thanks for the kind offer Rob, I may be able to come over at some stage if you'd like a closer look.

That Mclaren sure is a nice looking plane & I really like the open handle look on the infills.

I don't think it'll help with an ID but it came with a Alex Mathieson & son blade & a F Woodcock chip breaker, has no other markings on it.

    thanks
