Information on pops vintage "THE STAR" Fret saw

    Hello all.

I have just inherited this old fret saw and would love to know a little more about it.

The first thing i would like to know is its age. I am guessing that it would have been manufactured before electricity was introduced as it is foot powered.

I would also like to know its country of origin and the possibilities of parts as i am missing the drive belt.

Dimensions are approx 1000mm tall x 700mm deep and weighs approx 20kgs.

Has any of you guys got one like it??, i would love to know any feedback.

Thanks and have a nice day

    Hello,
I just got an 1894 Millers Falls No. 24 tool catalog reprint from the US.
The "Star" brand is featured in the hand hack saw and blade section, and a hand cranked power hack saw machine. Also the "THE STAR * SAW BLADES" fret saw blades in various sizes. The claim is that they are made in USA and exported worldwide. There is also a couple of saws very similar to yours, one called "The Cricket Saw."
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Peter

    Thanks for that Peter.

It was a good old tool and one that a collector would have really appreciated. I ended selling it off on Ebay as i had no room for it here. A shame really.

Anyway, thanks for your reply and have a good evening.
