janport chisels
Hi,
I'm new to this forum but based on previous reading of it, I'm thinking someone out there may be able to answer my questions.
I've come acrsoss three chisels marked "I Janport I" or "I I Janport" on both a decal on the handles and stamped in a rectangle with "Sweden" into the back of the blade. They appear to be a quality product, are in good shape, and the handles are protected by a metal ring at their "mallet" end.
Can anyone tell me anything at all about them--their quality (compared to Berg or others), approximate age, etc.
I've searched a good number of posts, some specifically about Swedish steel and Swedish chisels, but nowhere is the name Janport mentioned, with the exception of a post on a UK site, and that one just a mention of the name.
Thanks much for any info.

Some pics would be useful and give an indication of age.
Swedish chisels tend to be very good but haven't heard of that brand.
Use 'em and see how they go, thats usually the best way of seeing how good they are.
Cheers

Hey Martin,
Try posting this in 'HAND TOOLS - UNPOWERED', you may get something there. And you really do need to post some pictures. You can load them from your computer on this site.

Thanks, Toby,
The chisel in your photo is the same as what I have. (Sorry for not posting photos of my three--I'm not able to take photos at this time.) I was thinking that Janports were made in Eskilstuna, but not sure, tho with the information you've supplied in the links, that possibility is getting closer to seeming true.
