John Benson and co. plane iron
Hello,
I have an old (mid 1800's ?) plane iron with the stamp:John Benson & co.and wonder if anyone knows more about Benson?
The pen will supercede the sword
(image of feather quill pen)
As far as I can tell, John Solmons Benson [born 1819, died 1873] was a merchant in Birmingham England.
Between 1859 and 1885 the Sydney Morning Harold published several notices from local agents for John Benson and CO. So I gather his wares made their way down under.
Thanks!
