McPherson's catalogues
[QUOTE=anglesmith;1761231]Agree with you on the 1968 edition as much as my lack of specific knowledge will allow me. I think the blue X 4 edition was definitely Seventies and probably mid to back end as there is only the briefest mention of Titans. I'm not sure that there's not a 1964 catalogue lurking out there out there as well. If I recall correctly, Peter Robinson mentions it on his Titan index site. However in my pile of Titan bearing McPherson's tomes there is one there marked 164 on the spine. I'll check it next week.

McP Catalogues
Seems to be an email cross over here however, yes. Your image was the 64 edition I was thinking of. I notice it is also brown in tone. So there can be no confusion about this, I posit that the 1968? catalogue we were originally talking about which was perhaps mistakenly taken for 1978 is the one below. I apologise for any misunderstanding generated by the fact that you might have thought the 1964 catalogue was the 1968 because of the colour (brown) is common to both and we were talking (emailing) at cross purposes. Where if we were face to face holding copies in each hand of each edition it would have been obvious to the casual observer and to each other that our confusion was unwarranted. OK? I hope this has not confused people further as my aim has been absolute clarity on all these points so that we all have a common understanding of the confusion that can be caused by the different shades of the colour brown as interpreted by McPherson's and others over the four year period (1964 to 1968 maybe) or 1978 if I an mistaken. Oh! - nurse is coming with my jacket. I have to go now. Let me know if you need more.

Interesting thread on the date of the brown Industrial Catalogue. To add further to the discussion. On page 258 there is reference to compliance with Australian Standard B.158-1969. The earliest this catalogue could have been produced would therefore be 1970 and given above and other comments could be 1971 or 1972. Does any one else have some clues eg availablilty of Penetrene or WD40 both of which appear in the Catalogue.

Wow!!! Great find, looks like a lot of good information to be had in this by the looks of it. I have been trying to do a bit of research into how McPherson's and LS Barker fit together. To be honest the deeper I look the more confused I get. The double disc sander in the top left corner raises more questions again!!
Is there any detail on the separation of woodwork from metalwork, Macson dropping woodworking machines, or any mention of LS Barker??
Cheers,
Camo

No mention of LS barker that I can see but they do mention the in 1938 the business or EP bevan and sons Pty Ltd was merged.
Also mentioned is the Atma Ward lathes built by arrangement with HWWard & Co Pty Ltd.
Associated Machine tools Australia Pty Ltd was formed/separated from the main merchandising arm of the company in 1939.
The book generally runs through their various facilities/factories/departments - basically in pictures -not too much text.

Thanks for checking for me. It sounds like a really nice catalogue, sometimes the pictures give more info than any words would (for instance what machines they were making), I am very jealous!!
I would love to see more of it, especially images showing machines (showrooms or factory), but I also realise from personal experience how time consuming preparing and listing images can be, but like they say if you don't ask.
Cheers,

Not quite the Same, but ???
Hi All,
Back around 2001, I met an Older Englishman, in Portarlington, Vic.
I eventually bought a 1982 Hegner Scroll Saw from him.
He lent me a " 1914 C. Nurse & Co. Mechanics' Tools & Machinery, Catalogue, No. 16 ".
It is of course an Illustrated Price List.
It is a Hard Cover of 404 Pages. The Pictures of the Tools are up close so that you can see what you are looking at.
In places it Has a rubber stamp saying :" These Prices have advanced 15% ". Others say 10% & " Cancelled ".
When I took it back to him, he said " you may as well keep it ".
It was in a bit of a mess, so I took it to a Bookbinder, & he did a Suburb Job on it. Fixed the Red Cover, took a smidgen off the dirty greasy edges of the pages & all for $25 at the time.
I took it back to Pat, & he was very surprised to see what they had done.
For our UK Forumites, they were in :
181 / 183 Walworth Road, London S.E.
There are several other Addresses.
It is great to read through every now & then.
Wood they still be there now ?.
Just thought it might be of Interest to some.Regards,
issatree.

Thought I would add to this post. They are a 1923 Adelaide (I assume from the addresses) catalogue, and strangely the price list mentions Melbourne first(although I am almost certain these both belonged to the original owner).
Based on the checking I have done with the price list, I am assuming Adelaide and Melbourne shared catalogue format and pricing, well at least for 1923 (either that or the price list I have is SA, but they just listed the Melbourne address first).
Cheers,
Camo
