    Default McPherson's Powerhacksaw.

It isn't in the 1951 Catalogue but is in the 1955 & 1960's and not in the brown cover one from the 1970's

You can see the suds pump and switch are not the original ones unfortunately.

Those power hacksaws are hypnotic to watch in action.

A lovely little machine - the DOL starter in your photo's looks like it is (was) a Nilsen.

Your other thread shows a 1/2 HP 240V motor on this machine. The switching requirement for this (3.7A) is not particularly high, and you may not need a DOL starter at all, just a simple switch.

    Any one seen a McPherson's Powerhacksaw???-hacksaw10-jpg

You could look for an old Wilco or PDL metal clad switch on ebay (or a on old Nilsen DOL starter) that would work.

Any of the newer industrial switches (eg Clipsal 56 series) would also work fine.

Thanks for the info.. What is a DOL Starter?

It looks a lot like this one on ebay

I won't be getting one at that price!!!

I would have liked to keep it metal and in a matching period style but price my dictate that not possible.

    Direct On Line starter.
It basically stops the motor suffering damage through high current flow on startup. This link gives a better description.

    Default DOL starter

The additional feature of the DOL starter is that if the power fails, the motor will not automatically restart if the power is restored...a safety feature often seen in bigger machinery.

Yes...that Nilsen DOL starter is way overpriced (and far too big for your motor). As Stewie points out, a DOL starter also usually provides over current protection to the motor, so you would need to match the DOL starters overload rating to the motor current.

The mother-in-laws new puppy has bitten four cords lately (electric blanket, bedside table, radio and vacuum cleaner). I bought the replacement plugs from Mitre10. They also sell leads, though depending on the length you want, it can be cheaper to buy an extension cord, as you suggest. You just have to do the maths in the store (3m cord at $2/m & plug for $6.95 vrs 3m extension cord for $2.99 !! go figure).

I'm surprised the dog hasn't electrocuted itself .

When ever we throw out an appliance (such as a fridge or washing machine) I cut off the cord and save it for power tool type applications.

Getting the saw up and running is well underway, belt re-tensioned, new blade made to size and fitted. It cuts well now.

Cleaning all the crud off it is quite a task and probably a testament to some neglect.

The blue paint is very old but I wonder what the original color was?????

Vann it doesn't really look much different than the pics in the first post. I didn't take photos of the crud I took out from under the vice ways or coolant sump tank.
