old photos
Matt
thanks for posting those old photos,
I've added a few that I have come across as well.
One thing that all the subjects have in common
is that there are no smiles on any of their faces.
It may be something to do with the type of photography
that was available then, long exposure??
Graham.

Graham not a problem,
It’s fantastic to see these old pics, and when the saw and the plane were probably all most king, when it’s come to working wood.
Cheers Matt

When I saw the thread title I thought I was going to see baby pictures of simplicity.....then I remembered cameras have only been around since the 1800's (my maths could be out by a hundred years or so)

Thanks Matt and Graham
On the facebook page I saw a pic of HO Studley. PreviouslyI had only ever seen pix of his more famous cupboard. How inglorious is that to take second place to your storage cupboard? There is definitely no justice.
Also I noted that I have been less than proficient in the past in taking pix of my hand saws. Clearly the way to do it is to hold the saw in a rampant position (the saw preferably if it is not to be deleted from the thread) and accompany it with either a framing square or a hammer. A pair of braces, for your trousers, may be an aid to sawing, but is comparatively useless for drilling holes.
I also note that in Graham's second pic it includes a mitre box and presumeably that is specifically to appeal to Matt in an unashamed bid to get "likes" and "thanks!"
Graham's first pic is just wonderful and I don't why the fashion of decorating your veranda with saws did not catch on. I tried to give multiple likes for that one, but the technology was too much for me and it told me to "get nicked" (in the nicest possible way).
This is the best I can do:

Thanks Matt
You are wasted down there in Victoria. You could be wasted every day of the week up here in QLD.
Did you notice the plinth around the base? It wouldn't encourage you to sit on the Disston stand in case you got hooked.

Are your bright and witty this fine morning Paul.
I didn’t notice the huge bandsaw blade or is it a decorative fence till you pointed it out.
It does look pointy wonder if it was hammer set.
I was to pre occupied trying to work out all the other inscriptions.
Sally as suggested we move to Queensland on more than one occasion.
Not sure of the costs of hiring a road train from Victoria to Queensland lol.
Cheers Matt

Matt
I was going to ask you the date of that pic and then I thought "what would Hiroller do?" So I set about a little sleuth work. It would appear to be Disston's stand from the Panama-Pacific Exposition, which was not held in Panama as you might expect, but in San Francisco.
And the answer is....1915.

Matt
I have just twigged that Disston probably exhibited at that event as 1915 marked their 75th Jubilee. You may also recall, if you have been paying attention, that the D115, that was introduced the year before, was reinvented as the Jubilee saw: A golden (or should I say Diamond) opportunity to spruik their wares.
Regards
Paul
Edit: I did try to include a pic (two days running), because everyone like pix. but although I have attempted this in the normal way, the pic facility says I am attempting to use a feature to which I have no rights. Hmmm. I don't recall offending anybody or attempting to post indecent pix or impuning somebody's integrity. What gives? Never mind for now; Fortunately it was only a Disston pic, not a Simonds .Bushmiller;

I knew it, I just knew it!! You haven't been paying attention!! Go to the back of the class and sharpen ten 20ppi dovetail saws and say, all the time, it is "Simonds as in diamonds:"
Simonds as in diamonds
Simonds as in diamonds
Simonds as in diamonds
Simonds as in diamonds
Simonds as in diamonds
Simonds as in diamonds

Paul
