    Well it's obvious !! it's upside down

But seriously... It looks like the "low speed" crank cog is missing (see the last photo in your first post).

This is what it should look like:

    So definitely missing a cog

What was the reason for the additional cog?? Was the 616 Different size? I haven't really paid much attention to this model.

To answer my own question. It is bigger heavier and with both cogs present two speed, the crank handle can be fitted to either cog.
Drill to a 16" circ extra 4" over the 611
Run of feed is 3 ½ " an extra ½"
Weighs in at 126 lbs, plus 20lbs fatty!
Run of table 15" up 4"
Much thicker spindle 1 ⅛" up from ⅞"
    Increased spindle also 1 ½" up from 1 ⅛"

Two speed. Attach the crank handle to the normal crank cog and it turns the same speed as your 611. Move the crank handle to the third cog and it runs extra slow = extra torque - for bigger bits I suppose (or if you just feel like taking all day to drill a small hole ).

Yes, it has a greater capacity (if the operator is fit enough ), and a longer reach. I'll look up my notes and get back to you.

Answered some of my own questions (at the end of my previous post), probably while you were writing yours.

I missed this bit at the bottom of your post - sorry

That last line should read "Increased column also 1 ½" up from 1 ⅛"

The only thing I can add is the maximum capacity is up from 1 1/4" inch to 1 1/2" - though I'm always dubious of that claim - I'd a thought the maximum capacity of any hand powered drill would depend on how many weetbix you had for breakfast !!

Oh, and the large crank cog has 46 teeth, while the small one has just 22. So two turns of the small crank and you're still two teeth short of a single revolution of the large crank = about half speed.

All the holes are through holes so I guess you could convert one to left hand . Only the pawl stop would be on the wrong side if it has one. In that case it does, so my guess is that the phots have been mirrored.

To my knowledge they didn't make anything left handed, asi t was considered evil to be left hended and even at school back at those times you got the strap if you tried to write with your left hand and were forced to use your right.

The second one the fella said he'd deliver it to me at the Ballarat swapmeet which I was going to anyway. So I have my eye on it if it doesn't get any decent bids.

No picture yet, but I'd guess a Globe from the description.

Globe was made in Aust, and was red also, as well as having a 403 model so that would be a fair guess.

The other is interesting in that they kept the standad fly wheel and added a belt pulley to the crank side.
