Default Record 778 rebate plane info please

Just got this Record 778 rebate plane. Unused. But missing the fence rods.
I got some 7.94mm bright steel rod, fits the fence and body perfectly.
But I don't know how long the fence rods should be.
Anyone got 778 fence rods you can measure for me.
    Otherwise I'll just best guess.
    Thanks
    Lyle

I’ll pull mine out in the morning for you if no-one beats me to it.

These are excellent planes; much better than the Stanley 78 and clones… however every Record 778 is possessed by its own personal demon that craves a blood sacrifice with every use. In use the L/H side of the blade is exposed and it’s almost impossible not to give yourself a little nick….

    75mm on my Stanley 78.
    If that's any help.

    Thanks.
I'd thought they'd be longer in the Record. Based on how they attach.

The bars are 4-1/4” long with domed ends; this allows for a wooden sub-fence up to 1/2” thick to be attached.

    Thank you so much, excellent.
I'll be sure to have the bandaids on hand.
Although I do usually put a little bit of myself into every project (usually DNA of some type - usually O Pos!!!)
    Thanks.

Can you tell me how to sharpen the nicker.
Found out how to do it.

I rarely use nickers; generally it’s easier to just use a marking knife and go deep. To sharpen one I hold it in a pair of pliers and GENTLY touch it against a white wheel to shape, then freehand hone it on a diamond plate. Try to keep the round-ish tip profile as that allows initial scoring using a pulling motion.

The biggest problem with the 3-lobed style of nicker is that they work the most efficiently when they’re half worn down; but deliberately grinding away half of the spur to reach that point makes me cringe….
