They have mentioned compensation, but will probably want proof of costs etc. I am out of pocket for the postage and $1 per saw, but the package was worth much more to me than that.
I guess if I can get my costs back, I can buy a carton of beer or a litre of Bundy Rum and drown my sorrows
Is Australia post saying they have lost your package??

    Not very cheers Matt,[emoji35]

    Edit just read the email,

    “An have a great day”
Ironwood if there is anything I can do to help, just sing out.
Jasmine from Australia post needs to learn some diplomacy.

Look on the bright side - at least there are photos of everything that's missing.

Grab the photos and hunt through ePay to find similar saws and note the prices.

See if you can find some more expansive ones.

I bet there's a limit on compensation for uninsured parcels. Probably a couple of hundred bucks.

Put a case to them that the saws were worth over $1000 and they will probably pay you the uninsured parcel limit.

Seriously though, I know you were looking forward to this project and I feel your pain.

Yeah that's a bugger ! Hate it when that happens.

Theres no way they need bother looking in the "the packaging split apart" shed. If it's anything like mine, it was jet black and glossy with electrical tape, so should be reasonably easy to find if you turn the lights on, rather than looking into a dark room and saying you had a good search for them.

Matt really doesn't know anything about electrical tape, does he?

You use the black stuff for first aid, to stick yourself back together when you cut yourself.

You're supposed to use the green and yellow stripe stuff for parcels.

I would hazard a guess it’s ended up in some mailsorters shed. Anyone who’s a woodworker would probably guess what’s in there, going by the shape of the package. Not sure how hard it would be for them to get a parcel into the back of their car, or readdress it to themselves.

It will be interesting to see how they handle paying any compensation. Would be nice to be able to buy some replacements.

Brad, so sorry to hear of the "missing" parcel. My approach would be based solely on value rather than any so-called cost. They were vintage hand saws sent to you by a well known collector and all he asked you to pay was for the packing material and postage. Due to the number of saws and their age, I would put an estimated minimum value of $xxxx with the note that once restored they could be worth many, many times that figure. As for the person who who advised you of the loss and offered her sympathy/apology (???) by finishing with "have a great day" I can't print what I think of her approach. She probably sends funeral sympathy cards with the same ending!

As some of you are aware Ironwood saws have been lost in transit,[emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]
    By our National courier [emoji45][emoji45][emoji45][emoji45].

Any one have any suggestions on how to value there worth,
The only way I can think of is to find similar articles on line with monetary values !!
So I can aid Ironwood in receiving some sort of remuneration from Australia post.

    I’m all ears

    Cheers Matt.

PS This has been sugar coated !!!

From Aus post website Compensation for lost or damaged items - Australia Post

Unless there is extra cover arranged the most they will pay is $100. THey would be worth that as scrap steel and timber

Anyway more seriously, with all the saws he was getting that's probably less than $10 per saw. I cant see a probelm with getting the maximum payout, but it still sucks.

The masking tape would be to disguise the nature of the parcel in the light of Ironwood's experience.
