    Gentlemen

    A couple of pointers:

Don't dismiss the warranted Superior saws. Whilst they may not have the same charismatic appeal of a Disston No.12, for example, frequently they were not far behind the name brand saws. They differed often by having such things as a lesser number of saw screws, perhaps no wheat carving on the handle, the saw hardware may be steel instead of brass and most commonly the blades were not taper ground. However, this does not mean they were not without merit. and some WS saws have all of the foregoing!

Australia Post has just recently revised the postal charges and it seems there are flat rates across the country for given weights and volumetric weights. Check on the postage calculators supplied by Aussie Post for clarification and bearing in mind that Matt has to find what he can in terms of packaging and is only charging $1 for this service. It hardly pays for the sticky packing tape. So generally the postage is what Matt says it is.

If a Disston saw says "Philada" on the medallion it is probably 1896 - 1917, "Phila" will be 1917 - 1940 and "USA" will be 1940 - 1955. When it says "Disston" twice the saw is from the time HK Porter bought out the Disston family in 1955.

The Sorbys with the Kangaroo brand, are British and I think went up to about 1935. They tend to be stamped rather than etched on the blades.

Quite a few of the saws appear to have split nuts.

I hope that helps with some decisions. By all means ask questions of me, but please bear in mind I have not seen the saws in the flesh: Only the same pix you see here.

Lastly some saws were not selected originally only because they needed to have an inch cut from the toe as there was damage. this only matters if you are attempting to keep or sell an original and complete product. For most of you having a 25" saw instead of a 26" saw matters not one jot. Some saws were bypassed because they had a broken tooth. Again to the individual it would not even be noticeable, but for restoration and resale it is the kiss of death: An unfortunate truth!

    Happy saw hunting.

    Regards
    Paul

    Hey Matt,

Awesome, if they are unaccounted for I would like to grab 49, 20, 31, 77, 43.
Hard to tell for my not very knowledgeable eyes but is there both rip & crosscuts among them?
Also if you think that is too many feel free to say. I just don't have saws yet and restoring and sharpening up a few will be great learning as well as having some different sizes seems ideal.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Can you please put #66 "what a ripper" on my pile, Matt. Just something about it catches my eye.
I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.
