    Default Sally’s unknown plane.

Sally’s grandfather’s unknown plane help please.
Has a number three marked on the front behind the knob.
Also has a stamped 3 and another mark I don’t recognise on the inside of the Lever Cap.

It’s roughly the size of a Stanley no 3

The handles seem to me to be possible ,Beech but that’s a wild guess.
Also the fron knob seems to be disproportionately tall!!!.
    Maybe it was user made?

The iron has “BICO” I think, tho I’m not sure if it’s a “C”

    Cheers Sally via Matt.[emoji6]

Nice little plane Sally! I can't help with an ID, sorry. Don't let Matt get his grubby little hands on it!

Not enough bling for my tastes, too much cast iron stuff [emoji6][emoji6][emoji6].

    Sally/Matt

I can confirm it is a metal plane.

    Paul,

How have you “confirmed” it’s a metal plane.

    Cheers Matt.

    Matt

Point taken: I may have been a little hasty and wish to change my name to Fred (Right?). I am now leaning towards an association with Aussiephil, who is well known for being able to adapt his 3D printer to almost anything. The flaking varnish and simulated casting completely foxed me. It is now, in my revised opinion, a plastic plane made to look as if it has a cast metal body, high carbon steel blade assembly and timber handles.

I stand corrected ( hiding in my hole.)

    Regards
    Paul

    Ok,
Sally with her woman’s wisdom, has confirmed the plane is metal.
So we don’t need to discuss that any further, just move along please.

Another source has suggested it could be of German origins, possibly the brand Kunz?

These two marks I think old the key !!

    Cheers Matt.

It's likely a generic Taiwanese plane made for an importer. There are some other BICO tools (vises, drill presses, bench grinders, bit holders) and the logo looks slightly different, but they seem to be from the late 70's to late 80's. Some discussion about the vise's and BICO on this forum BICO 6 Vise | The Garage Journal and searching will turn up the other types of tools. No handplanes yet though!

Bico planes must be a long time forgotten. My google searches turned up a cheese slicer, ice tongs and oil drilling equipment.

......and don't forget the Barbados Icecream Company. I had more hits for that than anything else.

Also found a tool company in Wales but alas no planes.
