    Default Stanley #40 scrub plane

srub plane cleaning.jpgScrub tote.jpgScrub plane front.jpgScrub plane right.jpgHere is a Stanley # 40 scrub plane that I just refurbished. It was pretty rusty I was able to remove the rust and old paint. The sole was pretty flat so that didn't take much work. The knob and tote were cracked so I made new ones out of Mahogany 2 coats of linseed oil followed by 2 rubbings of bees wax, and 2 coats of polyurethane. Sharpening a curved blade took some research but it cuts well for hogging out big pieces compared to another plane of similar size. Based on the style and markings I figure it was built in the early 40's. This was a fun project.

Hi Mr C. Nice job. Where did you get the Mahogany from? And does it work?

[QUOTE=Mountain Ash;2196764]Hi Mr C. Nice job. Where did you get the Mahogany from? And does it work?

I got the wood from a relative that is retired from the home repair business.
It works good for its size.
