Wow! It's a bloody rare bench plane - especially in Australia - so I'm not too surprised. Any Bedrock commands big money and No. 2s likewise are pretty exxy.
Plus consider that for a US collector our $2k is a measly $1.3k in USD.
Question is how high a price will the final bid reach?

6***2 seems to want it badly, though he's manually bidding so might see him drop out in the last thirty seconds - when the real bidding starts. And then, sadly, it will sit on a shelf and never see dust let alone wood, along with the other 14 #2s in the buyers collection. And if the buyer is like most collectors, he/she won't even know how to sharpen it, let alone use it

Don't expect a WoodRiver #2 to head in the same direction, although Rob Cosman might have you think otherwise 😂

I'm the luck b#$@! who sold it
Hi All,
I'm new to these forums - I avoided them for far too long, thinking they were US dominated, only to be chatting to some lovely guys at the local men's shed who advised me the Forum was Aussie focussed. So here I am.
Couldn't believe the sold price. Far higher than expected. Its now unfortunately in the USA - back to its origin.
I'd sold another not quite so nice model 602 (original, but from a later era that didn't have the Bedrock lever cap) for $1295. That took weeks and weeks to sell so I thought I would give Ebay a go. I'll be using Ebay again for the highly sought after stuff until I can get enough subscribers to justify not using it.

Nice plane you had . Whats the story of how you got it ? Was it the good old early days of ebay buying from over seas? Ive heard early on it was very good for hand tools. I didn't start buying until 2007 off eBay and there was a lot more nice stuff and cheaper as well back then. Before that i've been told that it was even better.
You could also try putting stuff on Market place here on forum. No Fees.
How much did eBay take of you for a $2800 sale ?

"Whats the story of how you got it?" LOL. You're asking him to reveal his closely guarded secrets.
I was on ebay from nearly the start. Was living in Canada but accessing the US site which was the late 90s. As it grew in the early 2000s the variety became astronomical because you could access markets around the world and shipping costs were reasonable. At that time ebay was cheap, not because tools were cheap, I think the prices realised were simply fair. It was more that ebay wasn't charging fees like a raging bull and it was mostly auctions, and no scams. Then the scammers, collectors and boutique sellers got in there and wrecked it for everyone who would like to buy some good user tools to outfit themselves with. Now it's all overpriced buy it now and many good user tools are stripped and sold as parts for some muppet to fund his/her addiction. I haven't been on ebay in about 10 years since it all went to doo doo. Only got back on recently to estimate values and tried to buy a screw out of the UK (which is the only place on the planet these screws can be found), the shipping ebay quoted for that single 1.5GBP screw for a router plane was 17GBP. Needless to say, I don't bother with the site. Sad really. Well at least the shareholders are happy with it. That's a positive, isn't it?
