Default Stenner BL chain chisel mortiser Rare machine

The Stenners I picked up last month is an interesting machine. Stenner is a big industrial saw mill manufacturer from 1875 England that is still in business. They are best know for there re saws. I still have not found any information at all. did the rebuild with out a manual or a pic or anything.
This Stenner chain a Chisel mortiser is 4HP and 600 volts

in the shop ready to play with. wired it up to 600 volts

I cut a mortise with the chains and all i can tell you is Oh boy. have a look on YouTube. if you watch the video you will see that as soon as i pull down on the handle the machines start automatically , and when I lift it up to the top it shuts down again.

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wiq3wfS9Ulw]Stenner BL 021.AVI - YouTube[/ame]

    Jackafide

the head move in and out on dovetail ways and the table is fixed.the chain turns a thread in the head/motor

there are plenty of bronzes castings that i just cleaned up and left unpainted like the vacuum fan/blower

Other parts where cast aluminium and i took the importunity be polish the letters this time instead of paint.

The Stenner name tag was arn and so I painted it to match

the electrics are all solid cast brass that got cleaned up.

    built in chain sharpener

Next post please to many pics

    built in chain sharpener

and the cutting stone at the back of the motor

it has a great depth stop for quick set

you can see the bronzes stops for adjusting the mortise lengths

hand stitched leather to the handle to protect the paint from chipping and to give a soft sound when dropping the crank leaver . i also added leather to the pull down handle for comfort.

wooden tables with a two position adjustable stop.

the entire unit side out of the way when not in use.

you have to have the right plug for 600 volts

Hope that was not too many pics? thanks for looking boys.

Post a pic of yours and I will help with the gaurd.

    in the mean time::::::::::::

As I have said before this is a chisel mortiser as well. I had rebuilt the head and had to make bushing to fit my tooling. I like the flat botom sets that are not as pointed as the new styles are so it takes a bit more effort to drive a 1" chesel but they tend not to burn. I find the english kits augers are a lot tighter interface to the chisel and run better than the cheep sets from you know where. It takes about 1 minute to change over from chain to chisel.

Made a video of it punching a 1" chisel at the link below. My RPC took more time than normal to start as i just turned it off minutes before the video and the start caps are getting old. you can see the lights dim a little

    tool613's Channel - YouTube

I also made a new table that tilts and hold downs to hold any shape i want.
lots more pics of that too if any are interested.

Jack, Very Cool !! great to see this Mortiser finished and in action !!
You Blow my mind with this stuff !!
Tell me, you'd have to have one of the best collections of English Woodworking Machinery, and I mean the BEST of the Best English machines, Wadkin, Stenner and Bursgreen, All carefully restored...
Jack I don't know where you find the time, your work is nothing short of amazing !!
Wonderful to see you posting Down Under on Woodwork Forums, everyone and anyone interested in Machines could most certainly benefit from someone with your talents and knowledge on English Machinery.

I am still looking for information on Stenner for you but not turning up much at all, I would even go so far as to say that the mortiser you have is probably quite rare.
I did stubble across some Example pictures in a two volume set of The Woodworking Machinist by R.H.Hordern of a Stenner Table Saw...

you are the Man that come through every time. What can you tell me about theses latest catalogs you have. I would have never thought that stenner made a slider that was very close to the Wadkin PK.

You have seen the Stenner before but I thought I would show it down under because there is so much British machinery here. I have the only I know of so far in the world.

For those that don't know Matty has the largest collection of Dirty papers(machinery catalogs) in the world. he will say there is one other, but its a close race and Matty is winning. In the World of old wood working machinery restoration people like Matty are one of a kind. Rare information is beeing preserved by people dedicating large amounts of money and time to a passion in history. Thank you Matty for your friendship Mate.

This next set of pics not sure if you have seen Matty.
here is the tilting table i made from rat hole parts(rat holes are parts rooms one keep old machines and odds and ends for Restoration work) for the Stenner

    Default trouble

    Just fantastic work but ...

You can't do something up that perfectly! What if my wife saw that????

Questions would be asked ... about paint jobs ... and loose wires ...

You are a brilliant but dangerous man

Jack, thank you Mate !! those are lovely things to say, I never use smiles but here's one for ya...
The information on the Stenner Table saw is from an instructional two volume book on Wood-machining by R.H.Hordern who was a lecturer and writer on wood-machining in England around the 50's and 60's he wrote many books on the subject.

I will be posting up a storm here and hope to chat with you all here on old English machinery as well as some of that Barker stuff that is a local treat.

The Wadkin RM is just one big ASS machine(3800lbs) and the largest so far in the Wadkin temple collection. Its another one from the R family of wadkin machines designed in the 1920. the first generation of electric motor driven machines. Tho this could be order will into the 50s for line belt. I am dating this machine as 1941 based on the test number. I believe it came from a ship yard Near Hamilton Ont Canada and was in a pattern shop for the the big war. the Machine was wired for 25 Hrz(old Niagara power grid that was changed to 60Hrz). It will take moulding knifes up to 8" long and cut up to 1 1/4" deep. they can be left in and d not upset the straight knifes. I will be asking help on this one Matty on the bolt down type cutter set up. One has to pinch themselves when they can say that they have a 26" buzzer.

thanks you everyone that commented on my rebuild. Its means a lot to be me to share in the joy of these old rare machines. I am glade you think i do them justest.

Maybe this belongs in the bandsaw section, but searching for info on a big old panel saw I came first across pic 1, and then these 4 Stenners:
