The Saw ??.
Hi to you all,
Picked up a rather nice small Hand Saw. Has an open Handle as to the same as a Tenon Saw.
Has no name but says Cast Steel.
Blade is 9 7/8in. long. Handle end is 2 5/16th. deep & 1 1/2in. tail end.
Has 8TPI.
My main problem is it has 2 Rivets ?? & no nuts, & they are 13/64th. across the head either side, so therefore I can't get the Handle off. Wood really like to clean it up a bit better.
Blade is as straight as a die.
Really need some advice on the nice small Saw.
Yes, I know a couple of pics wood be better, but just can't get my head around it.Regards,
issatree.

If you are describing what I am thinking then its a pin and sleeve arrangement that you just pop off with a lever of sorts (e.g. beat up chisel etc.). I just did my first saw restoration on a small tenon saw and spent and eternity trying to unscrew them before I realised they popped off . I was a little worried if there were threads that I would strip them.

That Saw Again.
Hello The Caboose,
Well I've had a go at the way you said, but I think they maybe rusted in. I had to remove a lot of rust from the Blade while it was intact.
Might have a go at putting a pin hole, on a slight angle, & put some Freeze Liquid I have. I think it maybe in the Selley's group, & leave it for a week or so, but adding a bit of F/L every now & then.
I never actually thought of them being pressed together, but you only realise it when someone mentions it.
I hope I don't add too much F/L to the wood.
Thank you for your input, but I really thought I wood get some more responses.Regards,
issatree.

You could try over in the 'hand tools unpowered' section to see if you get some more replies. Unfortunately, I have no further advice on how to remove them. I was always intended to make a new handle for my saw so had no qualms about busting the old one when I levered the nuts out. I needed quite a lot of force to get mine off and did end up bending the shaft slightly, but I was able to correct it enough with a hammer to get it to fit back in again.

An Idea.
Hi All,
Can't seem to get Pics up.
I was told to get a large Soldering Iron, & balance it on the Pins??, but the one problem is which is the female side to do this.
Anyway I will try that, but most seem to think, that I should just clean around it as best I can.
Wood still like to remove the Blade from the Handle.
Thank you again for you support.Regards,
issatree.
