Afternoon All,

This a yarn about Tony's toolbox.

My Dad was working as a farmer up at Swifts Creek Victoria in the 1960's and met Tony who built the toolbox pictured below and a caravan. Later on, they both spent some time in Western Australia, and it was here Tony decided to return to Germany to start an architecture course. They did a deal...Tony traded the toolbox, tools, caravan, and a 1950 Ford Custom sedan for a one-way ticket to Germany...Dad says he never heard from him again.

The toolbox has had a hard life, it helped to build houses, got dragged around the farm in the back of the ute and used in the workshop.

It is constructed with rabbeted nailed joints and masonite board. The tray lifts up and slides back to open and when closed rests on the angled end pieces. The tray also had masonite hinged lids that are now long gone. Saws were housed in pockets on one side and chisels on the other side with angled divided spaces.

I guess these types of toolboxes were for the carpenter who moved from site to site. I have never seen any for sale on the internet selling sites or auction houses, although I do see the cabinetmaker ones now and then. Maybe not many survived due to the work they were used for.

Let us know if you have one similar or any information on the subject - would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The toolbox Tony made.
