Small un-identified jointer, help please?
Hiya,
i picked up this little jointer because it was cheap and i thought with a bit of a clean up it would help me clean up old palletts a bit faster than it has been taking me.It also has a drill chuck attachment and sanding disc attachment on either side of the blade spindle. In the process of cleaning it up and trying to see if i can make some small improvements curiosty has gotten the better of me. I can't find any makers marks and am interested to know if anyone has any ideas. The blades have a symbol on them that say sS & k co, which i assume is the makers of the steel?? would appreciate any help,
Cheers
Col

Cute little planer, I don't know why but I had Lightburn in my head when I saw it, they made a very basic line of tools for a while, but thats a guess.
The stand looks to be home made, and repurposed motor possibly of something else, not sure, Im thinking 50's may be 60's
Its a tricky one, I hope some one else can shed more light on this one !!!

Is it part of a combo machine?
I am wondering if it might not have been part of a bigger machine (combo machine), something like this one VINTAGE OLD TOOL EZYCUT COMBINATION TABLE SAW JOINTER PLANER NEEDS WORK | eBay.
I am only basing it on the fact that you said it has a drill chuck attachment and sanding disc attachment on either side of the blade spindle, but unfortunately I really have no knowledge relating to these machines. I wasn't going to list an answer, as I was concerned I might send you down the wrong path, but I figured as you have had limited replies at the moment, it couldn't hurt to throw this idea out.
Looking at the one on the link above, the details all appear to be on the switch, so my thought was at some stage the base, switch and motor were replaced, and the table top removed. Either way, I think you will find that it will handle the job you are asking of it, and probably outlast 2 of the new small jointers at a fraction of the cost, so good find!
I hope this helps and doesn't hinder.
Cheers,
Camo

Thanks so much for responding guys, really appreciate your input. I think your bangon Camo. I looked at the pictures on ebay and they do look very similar. Im sure a few homemade "improvements", have been attempted on my machine but as you said it with a bit of a clean up it will do me nicely. I only paid $50 so its a good get in my books. I will investigate with the leads you have given me and post here if i find anything.
Cheers

I have an Ezycut combo and while similar it is not quite the same. Ezycut has a box shaped base while that one is an open frame. It may even be an older Ezycut who knows. Whatever it is it looks good and solid and will plane wood for another few lifetimes if given a chance. I sharpen my blades on an oil stone but will get around to making a jig one day to make things easier. I also put new bearings in my machine as it started to make some noise. Bearing supply places will match them if you take in the old ones. Nut and bolt places will do the same if you need any of those. It is good to see nice old machines get a second chance.

I think you're right...same same but different!
Cheers John,
I tried looking up ezycut machinery and i didn't get very far on the internet. I im still in the process of giving it a clean up, and i think the adjustable side rest, is a little dodgy, i may have to make some adjustments for accuracy. Also i think the stand is homemade so the motor mounts and belt tension needs some adjustment. Apart from all that i'm really happy with my find. I bought some magnets so i could make a blade setting jig which i found on youtube and with a sharpening of the blades, my litlle planer, will work very nicely.
cheers
