Unknown 12" Jointer

Well ... it isn't just the eastern states guys having all the fun.

I knew there was a reason my other machines were in pretty much as-bought condition rather than gleaming reconditioned masterpieces ... obviously it was so that I could address myself to a needy project when it came along.
Yep, sure. That's the reason.

So ... I went to a promising looking 'garage' sale ... turns out I had my dogs with me and they used to have huskies ... talk talk ... hang on ... I met your son years ago ... talk some more ... are you interested in this?

Ya!

There is no manufacturers plate on it ... only a 40hz GG Martin & Sons motor like my thicknesser.

But the pedestal looks like it might held identify it (Matty?) ... it is a straight-through double-arch ... but a tin chute has been added for dust extraction in the past.

I should take our Sibs out with me if it helps get machinery!!

Looks like it needs a "little" tlc but I'm sure your up to it.

Now Now Paul, a little bird told me many years ago that the women in WA, Perth in particular are stunning, so life can't be too bad over there .....lol.

Nice pick up on the Planer mate, its a beauty, funny where a conversation goes isn't it, huskies to vintage woodworking machinery.
Any way, it is defiantly a UK machine, and with no markings, your not making it easy for me.
Went through most of my english catalogs, no real match, the base is very interesting, found a close candidate but as I said not a real match to the base.

Its interesting to note that the styling of the A. Cooksley machine is very similar also.

I'll keep looking....

You're stunning to me Matty.

The base looks really old-fashioned to me, flat-belt drive, 40hz motor ... but it has a 2-blade round head.

And there are screw-in oil/greasers on the bearings.

There was a plate ...

. I wonder if it wouldn't be worth having a scrounge around in the grass where you got the machine from (see if the plate is laying around)?

you do realise if you clean this one up too much it will make your other gear look less than perfect.

Do *you* realise ... if I clean this up at all it will be ... a frikkin' miracle

No ... a nice outcome here, and not only will I have the wide jointer I have wanted, but I will rest on my laurels so heavily I could get a part-time job as an olive-press.

After being parked on the driveway for a bit ...

The three parts to the jointer have now transitioned to the backyard.

The motor wasn't rotating at all. Investigating, I remove the end cap to reveal the rear bearing + grease.
The pulley came off easily, and then the front cap ... same story. Bearing + grease.

A couple of solid bangs on the protruding axle however, got first a little back and forth movement before almost immediately turning freely.

A bit of (careful) temporary wiring and ... I had it running on and off and its looking good.
In this video I only switch it on for a few seconds and let it run down.
