It might have been the same one. It was on ebay listed as an " arm redial saw" at $100 or $200 buy it now. It was covered in sawdust, but when wiped down,it looks newish. I'm going to keep it and move my Maggi 640 on. Cheers Greg

No. This one was advertised locally, in Armidale, my brother lives there. I read the ad then rang him to check it out. He rang me back at the end of the day and said that I had just bought a lathe. I had to drive the 60 miles up there to get. Quite heavy for its size.
I have had it up and running for 15 years or so. It had been stored in a hay shed. It was covered in dust and grime that was easy to get off revealing that rust was no where to be seen. I just cleaned it up and got the pulleys sorted out to drive it. There was no evidence of paint, but a lovely old dark grey patina that cast iron gets. Only last year I gave it a machinery green coat that is in keeping with the era of the lathe
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Thought I'd show some pics of an Artisan combo I owned about 6 years ago and my current Ezycut.

I would love to see some pictures too. I like it when someone posts a restoration, but I wish more people would post there old machines. I don't think it matters if it is in "working clothes", I bet there are a lot of great machines around that are of interest, that don't get shown, because it is a workhorse and doesn't need to be stripped down and repaired.

    cheers,

    Cameron

CMB, Start a post of on your machines, I have recently helped a good friend restore his Artisan, and I would love to put up the Pic's and have a discussion.

    Default Vintage vs Imported..

I believe this lathe will out last many a Carbatec etc. and added bonus - drive mechanism is interchangeable with little to no fuss

Would love to Matty, but probably best if you kick off your own on the resto to which I'll be more than happy to add/contribute to if I can.

Artisan and Ezycut have been covered a number of times over the years so I'd hate to go over old ground.

To stay on topic though, I have a particular love for both brands...
    a) because they were built to last (as you have previously noted generally in regards to older machinery)
    b) because they are both brands native to Victoria (a once brilliant manufacturing state...still is but not quite the same as 30+ years ago for well know reasons)
    c) and just plain old because.

I'm actually a carpenter/joiner with 20 years trade experience under my belt. I've used half mill cnc machines, rolls royce altendorf panel saws, top end felder shapers, etc, etc, etc. Somehow they all lack a particular something that an old clunker has. They'll all end up as scrap long before the old clunkers too.

    Craig.
