    Default Wolfenden Jointer

Question did Wolfenden produce a 14 inch wide jointer and if so is it possible to find a manual as mine measures 14 inch wide and yet it can only find a 12 inch wide when I do a google search maybe I am measuring wrong, I bought one about 8 months ago in going order but I want to totally restore it to like new with a new paint job.Etc.
Another question will it take spiral head cutters and if so cost wise what would that be anyone know.
I will be dressing very highly figured Tasmanian blackwood.

    Regards Bob

Ive only ever seen 12 inch ones Bob , One of the the catalogues would show 14 inch if they exist but I don't have a catalogue to check.

Where are you measuring from ?

I checked my 12 inch Wolfenden and the blade and head are 12 inches wide, the tables are wider I think , I didn't measure them.

Yes it will take a spiral head, there are a few options / makes.

I only just started talking to a guy at the last Working with wood show here in Melbourne , I have his brochure somewhere , he had a cheaper looking type than others I have seen , possibly an Asian make . I can give you his details if I find them. He has supplied them for the Wolfenden machines.

I think the better ones are from the US .

That's about all I know about them.

    I didn't get prices.

I agree with Rob, I would be looking to the US for one of these cutter heads, why pay a middle man ?
Have a look at these sites.....

And yes, Wolfenden most certainly did make a 14 inch machine....

Looks also to be a clamshell style head, does it take thick or thin knifes ?

    Matty,
    here we go...note the "man-size" head also...hehehe
I should stop poking fun, and thank you instead...they are your blades in it..woops
I included a pic of the bloke loading it into the trailer behind the ute. Can't see it though. I was rushed because as soon as I parked he had it over the fence.
Another welded body. 1950s isn't it Matty???

    Hi Bob,
I think I may have used your jointer on a couple of occasions about 4 years ago. Did you buy it off a builder in wivenhoe/Burnie?
From what I remember it was a good solid machine. I toyed with the idea of buying it myself, but at the time it wasn't in the budget and I don't have 3 phase. I am looking forward to seeing it polished up. I am also interested in the addition of the spiral cutters and how you go about it.
Best of luck with the restoration,
    Joel

Hi Joel, It sure is a small world, you are spot on, yes that is where I bought it off the builder.
I will post a few more photos this coming week and all going to plan I hope to have it restored within the next couple of months.
I will get a quote on the spiral cutters. regards Bob

Hi Matty, it has taken me a while but the Wolfenen jointer is now fully restored and I will be having it picked up this coming Tuesday.
I had the old blades in the machine sharpened so that I can start to use it as the spiral cutters will be at least 3 months away before they arrive. regards Bob

    Hi Bob,
The machine looks great, you must be looking forward to using it. Where did you source your spiral cutter from and what was the cost?
    Joel
