Default My first clock - basic

    Hi everyone,

I'm not certain if this is the place to post this item (or even if it is actually worthy of this site at all!), but seeing as this is the clock section, I'll see what you think.

I have a slab of Redgum Burl about 70mm thick that I have been using for all sorts of little things. In an I'll-just-cut-stuff-and-see-what-comes-out kind of mood the other day, i created this clock. The hole for the insert was created by using a forstner bit in a hand-held power drill. This stuff was so tough, my Makita drill was smoking by the end of drilling out the hole.

Initially cut it flat, but then thought that it would be better on a 15 degree angle, so cut it again.

Sanded to 1200, then U-Beaut EEE using a swansdown mop attached to a power drill, then Shellawax Cream using a different swansdown mop attached to a power drill.

For scale, the clock face is 70mm.

    Comments and critique very welcome.
    Thanks, Simon.

Nice work! How do you change the battery?

Hi DeanThe mechanism is an insert with battery in the back.It is held in place with friction. There is rubber around the back of the insert which holds it in place.Changing the battery is simply a matter of pulling the mechanism out, changing the battery then pressing it back in the recess.Simon.

Simply beautiful. And I think you are right about the angle it leans at too.
