Clock for our Shed
Wondering if there is anyone out there who has made a wooden clock for their workshop? I'm looking to make one for our Shed (Men's Shed) that is.
It needs to be bigger than a house wall clock in size. Might get a bit dusty over time too. I'm thinking of having a hammer and saw (wooden) extending from the sides of the face. Easy enough to either add after the face is constructed or incorporate them.
Any tips, thoughts or suggestions would be gratefully received.......
Mechanism suppliers anyone would recommend? Maybe someone even has plans for a workshop clock there appears to be plenty of other plans out there.
Thanks in advance, KerryKerry Larkan

Hi Kerry,
Not sure what sort of clock you have in mind, mechanical or quartz? I get my movements from CMI Hermle in Qld (google them to visit their web page, or call and speak to Rod Beaman - no affiliation!).

Kerry
are you looking to build the mechanism for a clock, or just a case for a purchased mechanism?
If it's the mechanism, a month or so ago, the forum sourced a 3 part article from Australian Wood Review on building a wooden clock.
drop me a PM if interested.regards from Alberta, Canada

I find a minimum of 30cm diameter and preferably 40cm is a good clock size for a shop - particularly if you need to view it from a distance, as in from the outside of the shop.
I also find that clearly marked hour numbers with divisions, and pointers on the big and little hands, makes for easier and quicker time reading - particularly from a distance.
It also helps if you can find people who can read an analogue clock face.

Have a look at this adjustable printable clock face template generator.
https://www.blocklayer.com/clock-face.aspx
You can make a template up to 900 mm diameter, and print it over multiple A4 pages (explained on site), or have officeworks print it on a single sheet for ~ $5
Change the number font, size, colour and position (50 + fonts available) and you can also add images and text, or an image as a background.
Click the' Show Hands' checkbox to add moving hands to the template to see how it will look for real.
If you think anything else should be added to it (the generator) please let me know.

Well done on the clock. It looks easy to read from a distance, which would be one of the reasons to have a large clock.
