    Default Latest Clocks

Staff at school are on the move again! Here are the clocks I made for them as gifts.

There are two natural edge clocks made from WA mallee burl (cracks and voids filled with CA and sawdust) for two male teachers.

There are two small insert style clocks. The 50mm insert is mounted in red mallee burl on brass legs while the other one is a 40mm insert in New Guinea Rosewood.

The small art deco style clocks were for lady teachers, one who was planning to move overseas so small was easier to take!

I certainly have been flat out doing gifts lately....there were a lot of bowls turned on the lathe as well but that is another story....

(Some of the photos are not so good)
    Cheers,
    Chipman

My wife (my harshest but fair critic) likes that one too and in reality pretty quick and easy to make. The hardest part is drilling the holes for the brass legs in the right place. For multiple clocks it would be easy to make a drilling template by I tend to do one-offs only.

My theory is if you use really beautiful timber like Mallee burl, you want the shape design as simple as possible so that it doesn't detract.

    Thanks,
    Chipman

I like them all as well. The red mallee one is particularly sweet...

    Hi FG,

The burl slices were finished with 95% gloss lacquer ( Watyl stylwood)

The burl art deco was finished with 35% gloss stylwood lacquer

The last art deco clock was finished with Minwax wipe on polyurethane satin

    Cheers,
    Chipman

by the way... the burls were mallee burls from WA... bought them at the Melbourne WWW show.
