    Hi,

I can open most files normally. However the IPT files for the GRAB-CAD clock I just can't open. There is also little info. on the web (which I can understand) that explains what to do. I would very much appreciate any advice you cold give regarding software requirments to open these files.

    Thanks. A

PS software tried to open above: Vectric CutD, WinTopo Professional, Word, Excel,

The files open with Autodesk Inventor. The .ipt file extension is a part and the .iam file extension is an assembly. I know you can get a free viewer from Autodesk here Autodesk - Autodesk Inventor View I am not sure if the viewer will let you convert it to another format though. I can export them to a different format because I have the full version of Inventor.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I'm unable to load Autodesk on my computer. I tried several times to download the files but at the end of the download a message 'incomplete file download' kept on poppng up and I could get no futher. Will try again in a few weeks time. It's high time I upgraded my computer this one's stem driven. Thanks again.

    Kind regards. A

I too am part way through making this one, by hand. By the way, whats CAD ?

I use a lathe, scroll saw, band saw and files... Plus other sundries like abrasives.

Anyone else do it the hard way?

Edit : - On looing back at this I realise that I didn't mean CAD, but CNC. These initials are so confusing for us old??

I do it the hard way, but, if I had access to a CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machine I would have no philosophical worries about using it.

Well SDS, you have cost me a couple of hours this afternoon reading a load of things on Mark Headrick's web site, part of which is Escapements in Motion! The guy is very interesting and I would advise anyone with an interest in clocks or watches to have a good look at it. There is a boat load of gen there, down to the weights for cable and chain driven movements.

Fascinating !! Thanks for the link..
