Grandfather Clock
Grandfather Clock---(1994)
The year was 1994,when finally got around to building a grandfather clock I been designing for two years…With the help of a good friend in Ray Beckham(NZ),Ray was A cabinet Maker am a Fitter&Turner but love timber,we build the clock together over two weeks at he’s place in Melbourne..
The year before my father had retire, and gave us kids some money each,I decide to buy a grandfather clock mechinze,Kieninger KSU(116cm)Cable-Driven,Triple chime,270mm Bob Lyre Pendulum, and MB 0070 Dial..This set me back $1240.00 at the time…
At this stage I had the lengths from middle of dial to center of Pendulum..Made my drawing to scale and to suit, the clock centers, once happy how thing look on paper start to make templates for top,for door were dail sits, from door were Pendulum is and bottom of unit base…
I had 3x lengths of Mahogany (600mmx50mm thick x 4mtrs long) which had store in lounge room for two year, but were over 25year old and very dry when I got them..
Start in the middle of Jan 1994,start from the bottom up,the base has adjustable legs on four corner,so could make shore the clock would be dead level..
The clock is made in three pieces,so could move easly, the top curve, come off is fix with brass screws,as does the front top were dial is,this has pin low cater and bolt to hold together, to the main frame were Pendulum is..
Most of the clock is Biscuit join&Dowel together, they are glue block in different are to reinforce thing..
All the glass is bevel, including the three pieces on the top curve, the Clock has three coats of Polyurethane lacquer…
The clock has been move three time since finish, each time its been move re-oil,2years ago I has the clock mechinzem over hold,as the clock stop..
Toll cost to make including Mechinze and get glass in 1994 was $2500.00
