messing around with gearotic
i was playing around with the demo version of gearotic
after the learning curve ( not that hard ) , i decided to have a go at a clock
started off with a 420mm 60 pin escarpment with a grass hopper ,as the main feature ,running at 1min per rev ( second marker ) then went with a 5:1 , 2:1 , 3:1 , 2:1 , to get the 60:1 min hand , and the same for the hour hand
i was just stuffing around , and cant save the files in the demo version of " "gearotic " so i took a screen shot
lol i added 3 elliptical gears so the minute hand pulses every minute , added the same too the hour hand , but you might need a ton of weight to get it to move
, and the hour hand elliptical gears would need to be after a 5:1 ratio gear , so the hour hand will pulse pass the hour ( 5min)
i added a video of the 2nd photohow come a 10mm peg dont fit in a 10mm hole

I have a RAR file of a program called "Gear Maker".
It's a freebie

Found it.
The trial program does funny things to the gears
The full version is $26 and it is buying not renting

when you get given a pendulum distance , is it centre of the mass or top of the mass ????
only one way to find out , make one
i didnt like the escarpments on that program so i didnt bye it , just use it to check rotating speeds and direction
decided to knock one up with cad , wow that takes a while , ill post DXF's as i go

got the teeth drawn out on the 420mm diameter 60tooth escapement , and working out the pawl ??? i know im a fussy bastard
the teeth angle is not the same for both sides of the pawl , to get the most out of the power available , the left hand side has to bee way longer , lol , probably why grass hoppers are better
thought up 2 ways around it , a dodgy pawl with a linkage between , or 2 escapement wheels with different "impulse pallet angles " and glue them together
photo1 , arc's from pivots are in blue , working out tangents are in yellow , the 2 angles are 0.16 deg different , im happy with that
photo 2 , where the left hand side will be , its 3 teeth farther out ?? i set the teeth out on the right had side , so the centre of the pendulum weight is around the hand axils gave the limits on sizes ,(248.5mm )
any way learning heaps ,
grass hopper drawings are hard to find , but i did find a 16 page write up by "Guy d Aydlett"

the left one would be 12.25 deg out , so could 1/2 the left to 6 deg each side ?

I have not got the faintest clue what you are talking about.
Too technical for me

thats ok because neither did i , the angles on the cogs were wrong , so i redrew it , worked out spot on this time
i was going on about the "angle of the dangle of the do-flacky and thing-a-me-bob "
just the interaction between the escapement teeth and pawl , and dividing the angle of the 2 forces to get best mechanical advantage (finding the angle of the impulse pallet)
got it sorted

It works
ran the plans through the CNC this morning , and screwed it to the side of my work bench for a test run
i marked out the 2 axil spacings at exactly 248.49mm with my blunt carpenters pencil and tape measure , and screwed it to the wall , then zipp tied it together
1st up it didnt work , the pendulum had too much kick , and was hitting the deepest part of the escapement ( +8 deg ) ,
so i moved the pawl 4mm farther away , and it worked a treat
i knocked up a pully and weight , and stuck some magnets on the pendulum to add some weight
now what am i gonna do for the rest of the long week end ???
the material is 3.5mm " Aulwell " a plastic base with a sheet of aluminium each side , and then a nice paint job
i scored a sheet free , a car destroyed one corner of it , it was a sign , a very loud sign , just have to work out how to remove the stickers with out destroying the paint gob underneath
photo is pulled from the video
