Stabilising wood gears against ingress of moisture - Cactus Juice?
Hi - I am new to the art of clock making, having completed just one clock using plywood gears. In future, largely for aesthetic reasons, I'd like to move away from plywood gears to using Tasmanian minor species. I'm assembling the gears from four segments with the grain running outwrds from the centre towards the teeth. I had thought of using American Cactus Juice to stabilise the gears against changes of shape caused by the ingress of moisture. It's a rathere expensive precatalysed product which is drawn into the wood after the removal of air and moisture from the pores under high vacuum. The Cactus Juice is then activated by heat. I have a vacuum system but would like to know if anyone has used this product (or perhaps an Australian equivalent) in a similar application.
Can anyone help me/
Thanks and cheers,
Mervyn Mitchell
