wood gear grandfather clock
Just came across this and I'm blown away.
Never saw a grandfather clock with wooden gears before!

wood gear grandfather clock
I found one in ebay that someone had started and had given up on, some gears were missing. thomas clocks provided the plans on download. I have cut two of the gears, the escapment gear and second gear. in baltic birch. A 3/8 bandsaw blade works fine and a jig saw does the insides of the wheel. paid 28.00 for it with shiping. going to be a real project. if anyone wants to chime in here, have at it. Bob

Hi Keju, Where have you been the last few years ,there are wooden geared grandfather clocks on the Woodwork Forums ,they appear to have been lost ,as the are not on the clocks site.
I will attach some photos of clocks that no longer exist on the clock site.
regards Nine Fingers.
PS. naked clock now over 2.5 years old, ticking at 15,760,000 times pa.

Oh I've seen plenty of wood gear scroll saw clocks, just never one for a grandfather clock.....
I always wondered how the gears stand up to changes in humidity in the air. Thought most people would make them from ply for that reason. ?

I built one with wooden gears from a kit years ago. I looked neat, made a lot of
noise and kept terrible time!
It was mostly ply. The gears were pre cut, just need a little sanding and clean up.
My X still has it.
