Small application for the scale of ruder etc.
Hey
I have today being working on scaling the drawing with the ruder and the centreboard in a grafic program.
I have considered if i should make a small .NET applikation that can do it for me.
It would work in this way:
1) You print out the 120 cm line and measure it
2) You type in the actual width of the line that have been printed out
3) Hit the Calculate button
4) An scaled drawing is being printed out.
Could such a small application be of any use or is it a waste of time ?

sounds useful to me.
Also might be useful, this method for machining the shape

If there was a software application that could do it ... I would fall at your feet with gratitude!!!
You could do one for standard NACA foils ...
But the Section (foil shape) I use should be kept for people who buy my plans.
The software solution would be the same for both.

In a way I quite like people contacting me to fix it for them. But a .net solution would be simpler.

Howdy Bjarne,
I don't know how difficult it would be or how much code would be involved or how big the resulting package would be to send to people.
I just looked at a bit of basic .NET info. It looks like using version 2.0 .NET can be ported to everything from OSX to Linux using the Open Source Mono project from Novell.
Might not be useful because .NET is up to version 4.x and going backwards might lose some of the attractiveness of the project.

Are we talking about the page with the templates for the rudder and centerboard?
I played with the scale in Adobe - trial and error - until I got the line to measure 120 mm when the page was printed. It took two, maybe three tries to get it the right dimension.
The experience was pretty painless.
Just a thought.

I got lucky printing mine. It came out too small when I printed from a PC but when I printed from my Mac mini it came out at 120mm first try.

Howdy,
Within the Adobe Reader program there are different settings for the scaling factors too. Normally it is set to make the image fit the page, but there are a number of other options too including scaling (use a calculator to work out the percentage).
And remember to change it back to "fit the page" after!!!
However anyone who finds other methods too tricky should just email me at [email protected] and I will work out a new size for them!
Best wishes
Michael
