I'm not an expert, but I think your fillets a bit to small (5 mm?) are. They needs to be really strong - especlally in knees/bottom joint. My fillets cracked just there:

At present I'm starting to repair them with glass.

About bedlogs etc. I don't know your methode is bad or not. Simply I like method described in plans and I trust that this is wise. Thanks - my centre case is strong and I believe that is the strongest element of this boat.

I have managed to find at least some time of late to continue my Beth build.



The deck carlins were holding me up a bit, I have one of the laminations attached, now for the second. I still have to beef up many of my fillets to full strength, most with the addition of glass tape as well - especially where the knees attach to the bottom panel.







And just for fun:

I came across this image some time back: ever imagined what a Beth would look like with a forward saloon? I don't think it's a Beth actually, lol.

Neat to see someone else's build. I did the carlin laminations in 2 stages as well and found it worked very well.

I take it the young man in the background has been keeping you busy? I bet he'd fit nicely in the front of the cockpit as crew when you finish the boat.

Even neater to see two builds going on at once!

How true (understatement of the year)
He fits in nicely at the moment as you can see below, but I hope I have it finished before he's in college or it may be a bit squeezy.

OK, I don't normally like to revive old threads, however I did start this one, and my post is relevant, even if other posters may have moved on to other things.

Time has moved on, in fact 10 years in all. I said all those years ago that I wanted to complete Skippy before my son started college. Well, he is starting high school next year, so what better reason to continue with the build.

I have mostly got the deck on, a step that was holding me up immensely, and resulted in my years of procrastination. You will note there is an extra deck segment on both sides, bit of a stuff-up with my ply measurements, oh well.
Turned up to be fairly straightforward, I used a staple gun loaded with small 12mm brad nails fired through little squares of black plastic (bottom of a green shopping bag) to prevent them going to far into the plywood. I heated each brad with an old soldering iron before removing them with a small pair of pliers. Managed to get all of the brads out, so I was pretty happy.

Well I can't claim to remember this thread from back then but it's good to see it revived. Things are far too quiet here these days. Hopefully you'll keep posting on a regular basis until it's done.
One advantage of the long pause is that now you have an eleven year old to help with the sanding .

Thanks, it is good to have a revived interest in completing Beth, I plan to use it around Dennes Point on Bruny Island where we have a place. The channel area adjacent to Bruny should be fun to explore in a sailing canoe.
